"Memory is a kind of homesickness, and like homesickness, it falls short of the actualities on almost every count." -Ivan Doig, 'This House of Sky', p. 239
I love this. It reminds me of something Melissa, my daughter said back in the winter. she was home from school for a week-end and I asked her if she gets homesick sometimes and she said, 'I do, but then i come home and I realize I'm sort of homesick for a time that is no more.Emily is gone, Victoria and Matt aren't little anymore' :) I understood her perfectly!

ReplyDeleteSo very well observed! It's always a bit surprising to revisit past happy places and find we cannot quite recapture the dear memories.
