pools of lace,
white and pink—
and all day the black ants climb over them,
boring their deep and mysterious holes
into the curls,
craving the sweet sap,
taking it away
into the curls,
craving the sweet sap,
taking it away
to their dark, underground cities..."
-from Peonies by Mary Oliver (b.1935)
oo-la-la! here as well. I looked at a map of U.S.A. and Canada to see where Montana is in proximity to southern Ont. We are almost level which explains why we often share the 'stages' of nature!
ReplyDeleteLove how the we can explore the world and go a-visiting without leaving home! We are in the western mountains, a bit above 3000 ft above sea level, so that plus the similar latitude probably makes for very similar climates! (Our plant growing zone is usually 4.)
